Burton to Have Surgery, Out for the Season: Wide receiver Keenan Burton will have surgery on Thursday to repair a fracture in his wrist and will be out for the season, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Burton sustained the injury Aug. 31 and tried to continue but was unable to play at full effectiveness in the first two games. He returned three kickoffs for a 29.3-yard average and caught two passes for 13 yards, all coming against Louisville.

?I?m disappointed for Keenan and for the team,? Brooks said. ?It?s a tough loss for us. We were fortunate that we had some receivers make big plays against Indiana. They will have to continue to step up their play because Keenan was one of our top receivers coming into the season.?

If the surgery and rehabilitation go well, Burton should be able to return for spring practice. With the injury occurring this early in the season, he will be able to apply for a medical hardship. If granted, he will retain three seasons of eligibility.

Burton is a sophomore from Louisville, Ky. In 2003, he caught 20 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by the Knoxville News-Sentinel. He figured to be a major contributor this season as a wide receiver and on punt and kickoff returns.
