Kentucky (1-4) looks for its second victory of the 2004 campaign Sunday afternoon when the Cats meet in-state rival Western Kentucky (4-1) for the second time in as many seasons. The match is set for 2 p.m. EDT at the UK Soccer Complex.
UK meets the Toppers on the heels of a dominant performance Friday evening in Cincinnati. The Cats collected goals from freshman Callie Lanphier and Queen City-area products Alli Haeussler and Laura Wendling on their way to a 3-0 shutout over Cincinnati. Sophomore Anne Ogundele preserved her first shutout of the season with five saves but will face a difficult task in stopping the high-scoring Toppers.
Western Kentucky has dented the net 18 times in five matches and scored a season-leading six goals in its most recent match against Lipscomb. Senior Betsy Duncan and sophomore Jenna Silverberg lead the Toppers with four goals apiece. Silverberg scored the lone WKU goal in Kentucky?s 4-1 win over the Toppers a season ago in Lexington.
UK sophomore Elisabeth Jones enters the match having registered at least one point in four of the Cats? five matches. The 2003 SEC All-Freshman team selection has four assists on the season and registered two of those Friday evening at Cincinnati. Should Jones continue her current pace, the Nicholasville native would break the Kentucky single-season assists record of 11 held by former All-SEC and All-Great Lakes region selections Annie Gage and Elizabeth Ramsey.
Sunday afternoon marks Camper Reunion Day at the UK Soccer Complex. Children wearing their UK Soccer Camp tee-shirts will be admitted free of charge, and their parents may take advantage of $1 admission. Fans also may purchase four tickets for $8, as well as four hot dogs and four drinks for a total of $8. In addition, ice cream sundaes will be available for purchase.
