CINCINNATI ? The Kentucky offense came alive with the help of two Queen City-area products Friday evening, as the Wildcats posted a 3-0 victory over Cincinnati at UC?s Gettler Stadium. The victory serves as the Cats? first shutout since a 2-0 blanking of LSU in October of 2003.

Kentucky (1-4) dominated possession in the early minutes of the match before getting on the board. Junior Jen Weakley got a head on a fifth-minute Ashley Janning free kick, and UC goalkeeper Sherry Slye recorded the save. Two minutes later, a corner kick from junior Courtney McCrudden found the left foot of senior Alli Haeussler, though Slye stood tall for the save, once again, before succumbing to the Wildcat attack. In the ninth minute, McCrudden found sophomore Elisabeth Jones near the top of the box. After a couple of touches, Jones sent a 12-yard line drive off the left post, but Haeussler, a Cincinnati-area product from Fairfield H.S., booted in the rebound from 10 yards out for a 1-0 Kentucky lead.

Kentucky tacked on a pair of second-half goals to salt away the victory. Jones cleverly played a through ball just outside of the box to Callie Lanphier, who nudged past the accompanying defender just in the nick of time to flick a shot off the right post and into the goal with 25 minutes remaining for a 2-0 Wildcat lead. Junior Laura Wendling, another Cincinnati-area product from Edgewood, Ky., played a 73rd-minute cross from freshman Kelsey Fenix. Her soft, bending shot from nine yards out trickled off the hands of Bearcat keeper Tracy Hale and into the goal for Wendling?s first career score. Kentucky goalkeeper Anne Ogundele preserved her third career shutout with five saves as UK outshot UC by a 21-8 count.

Kentucky returns to the pitch Sunday afternoon for an in-state bout with Western Kentucky. The match is set for 2 p.m. EDT at the UK Soccer Complex.
