A pair of former Kentucky swimmers begin competition Saturday in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Rachel Komisarz, a former All-American and SEC Champion for Coach Gary Conelly from 1996-99, will compete in Saturday?s 100-meter butterfly preliminary round after winning the event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July. Komisarz and former Olympic medalist Jenny Thompson will represent the United States in the event. Komisarz will compete in the third heat between 10:42-10:44 a.m. local time (3:42-3:44 a.m. ET). The semifinals are set for 12:43 p.m. ET Saturday.
Annabel Kosten will represent The Netherlands in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Kosten competes Saturday at 12:30 p.m. local time (5:30 a.m. ET). A letter winner from 1997-2000, Kosten holds Kentucky records in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.
UK sophomore Nikia Deveaux will represent The Bahamas in next weekend?s 50-meter freestyle event.
NBC will present televised coverage of the swimming events Saturday from 12-1 p.m., 5-6 p.m. and 8 p.m.-midnight ET.
