A trio of Wildcats competed in the men?s 50-meter freestyle preliminary round but fell a little short of the semifinals Monday at the U.S. Olympic Trials ? Swimming in Long Beach, Calif.

Junior Daniel Farnham turned in the top Wildcat performance with a time of 23.36 for a 20th-place finish but missed the semifinal cut by four positions. Senior Tim Patrick placed 23rd in 23.37, while senior Clay Gasparovich took 36th with a time of 23.63.

Senior Daniel Cruz missed the 100-meter butterfly semifinals by two spots with an 18th-place preliminary-round time of 54.93.

Junior Shantel Commander placed 31st in the 200-meter breaststroke preliminary round on Sunday with a time of 2:36.72.
