Men's Golf

The Kentucky men?s golf team will tour the western and northern sections of Ireland, playing on some of the world?s best golf courses, June 23 ? July 1. During the weeklong trip, the Cats will visit historical sites and play eight golf courses, including Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, and Portmarnock Golf Club.

?This is going to be a trip of a lifetime for this golf team, coaches and administrators,? Craig said. ?We are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to tour Ireland.?

The seven Wildcat golfers making the trip are Mark Blakefield, John Holmes, Matt Wells, Tyler Wilson, Cale Barr, Andrew Stephens and Brad Doster.

?We are really excited about it and it will be a great chance to test our games against some of the best courses in the world in a different style of golf from what we normally play in the states,? Craig said. ?It should be beneficial for our student-athletes.?

Blakefield Wins Second Chippeways Match Play Championship

MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Mark Blakefield won the 69th annual Chippeways match play championship for the second year in a row, by defeating former Wildcat basketball player, Deron Feldhaus 3 and 2 at the Maysville Country Club on Sunday.

Blakefield, a Maysville native, shot a 1-under 71 to win the three-day tournament. His path to the title started with a win over Brent Curtis on Friday and Brad Wilder on Saturday. He defeated Wildcat teammate Matt Wells on Sunday morning in the tournament semifinals.

CBS to Broadcast 2004 NCAA Championships

CBS is set to air the 107th NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships, which were played June 1-4, on Saturday, June 26 at 5 p.m. Kentucky finished eighth, its highest finish in school history behind John Holmes (6th place) and Matt Wells (8th place).
