Lexington, (Ky.) ? The Kentucky baseball team will go in search of its 20th win of the season when it plays host to the Morehead State Eagles on Wednesday at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. (ET) start.
UK enters the game after taking two of three from then-No.6 South Carolina over the weekend. The two wins gave Kentucky its first series win over the Gamecocks since the 1999 season and snapped a 10-game losing streak to South Carolina. The Wildcats (19-16, 5-10 SEC), who earlier last week defeated intrastate rival Louisville, 5-1, won the first two games of their series with Carolina by scores of 6-3 and 11-6, respectively. Sophomore Kalen Gibson threw a complete-game gem to pick up his fourth win of the season in the Friday game. The Slaughters, Ky., native allowed just four hits and only one earned run while striking out nine Gamecock batters. Gibson was awarded the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for his effort, marking the second time this spring he has garnered the honor.
Morehead comes to Lexington with a 10-22 mark. The Eagles most recently dropped two of three games to Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State. Prior to that series, MSU had won four games in a row, including a sweep of Tennessee-Martin.
Kentucky owns a 37-23 advantage over Morehead in the all-time series, including a 10-4 win last season in Lexington. The two schools have split the last four games of the series.
