Faulkner shoots one-over Sunday to lead UK

Baton Rouge, La. ?- The Kentucky women’s golf team shot their best round of golf of the weekend Sunday, but the squad could not move up in the standings, finishing 12th at the 2004 SEC Championships. Erin Faulkner shot a one-over 73 over the last 18 holes to end in a tie for 39th at the championships.

Eva Gessner and Marissa Muir also finished the three-day tournament with their best rounds, firing a 76 and 78, respectively, on Sunday. Gessner finished the day where she began in a tie for 43rd, while Muir landed in a tie for 51st at her first SEC event. Ali Kicklighter and Katie Dixon also competed in the tournament for the Cats, coming in 56th and tying for 58th. UK finished just six shots behind Mississippi State and 16 behind 10th-place Alabama.

Vanderbilt held onto their lead to take the SEC crown, carding a team score of 291 for the second consecutive day and finishing four shots in front of Auburn. Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza and the Commodores’ May Wood continued their fight for medalist honors through the final 18, finishing the tourney at a three-under 213. It took a playoff for Wood to claim top individual honors at the championships, as she fired a par on the first hole of sudden death to win the title.
