ST. SIMON?S ISLAND, Ga. ? The Kentucky men?s golf team shot a day two 293 (+13) in the 2004 Southeastern Conference Championships to remain in sixth-place through 36 holes of the tournament with a 580 (+20) team total. No. 1 Florida rebounded from a 14-stroke deficit in the first round to move into a tie with No. 4 Georgia for the lead. Both teams ended day two notched at 560 (Even).
Despite not moving up in the team standings in round two, Kentucky gained three strokes on fifth-place Tennessee (283-296=579) and sit just five strokes behind fourth-place South Carolina (294-281=575) going into the third round on Sunday.
Kentucky golfers junior John Holmes and sophomore Matt Kohn finished the second round tied for 12th and 19th, respectively. Holmes posted a day two 72 (two-over-par) for a 36-hole 142 and Kohn (144) shot a three-over-par 73 second round. Juniors Mark Blakefield (72-73=145), Brandon Waldrop (74-75=149) and Matt Wells (74-75=149) rounded out the Wildcats? lineup.
The third and final round of the tournament will tee off at 8 a.m. Sunday morning on the Seaside Golf Course at the Sea Island Golf Club.
