BATON ROUGE, La. – Despite shooting six shots better than Friday, the Kentucky women’s golf team sits in 12th place heading into the final round of play at the 2004 SEC Championships in Baton Rouge, La. The squad shot a team score of 309 Saturday and are currently nine shots behind Mississippi State in the team standings.
Eva Gessner continued to lead UK after 36 holes with a 78 in the second round. The senior is tied for 43rd, while Erin Faulkner isn?t far behind in a tie for 46th. Marissa Muir carded a 79 Saturday at the University Club to end the day in a tie for 50th, while Ali Kicklighter fired UK’s best round of the day with a three-over 75. The sophomore is now in 57th.
May Wood of Vanderbilt overtook the lead from UT’s Violeta Retamoza with an impressive four-under. Wood now has a two-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final 18 holes. The Commodores also are atop the team leader board with a 586. Auburn is sitting one shot back with a 587.

*The UK junior varsity team wrapped up action Saturday at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic. The Cats finished in seventh place with a 973 team score. Murray State won the tournament with a tally of 919.Stacy Springer led the squad with a ninth-place score of 237. Maggie Gabelman ended the tourney one shot behind Springer in a tie for 19th.
