Women's Golf

The Kentucky women?s golf team shot a final team score of 955 to finish in 18th at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga. Eva Gessner led the squad with a final round of 79 en route to a tie for 78th in the prestigious tournament.

Gessner finished the tournament with a 236, five shots ahead of teammate Emily Culbertson. Culbertson carded an 80 Sunday to finish in a tie for 84th. Ali Kicklighter and Erin Faulkner came in one (242) and two (243) shots behind Culbertson, and Marissa Muir shot her best round of the tournament, a 78, to complete the 54 holes in a tie for 92nd.

Georgia won the elite event after passing Ohio State Sunday with a tournament-best round of 285. The Buckeyes came in second with a team score of 876. Duke?s Brittany Lang never relinquished the lead and won medalist honors with nine-under 207 for the tournament.

The Cats will now take three weeks off to prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championships, which will be held April 16-18 in Baton Rouge, La.
