Thomas Morgan continued his remarkable senior season Friday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., breaking a 32-year old school record in the 5,000-meter run. Morgan also smashed his previous personal best and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the event with his fifth-place finish.

Morgan?s time of 13:45.57 was more than 13 seconds better than his personal best of 13:59.39 set last year and less than half a second better than Paul Baldwin?s mark set in 1972. The performance was the first for Morgan since the cross country season, as he sat out the 2004 indoor season after running out of indoor eligibility. Morgan was named 2003 SEC Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year after winning the SEC Championships and NCAA Southeast Regional in leading the Cats to only their 12th NCAA Championship appearance in school history.

The Cats return to action April 1-3 at the Texas Relays.
