Biondi, Fryman finish in top five

The Kentucky track and field team opened up the outdoor season Thursday at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla. The Cats? Kathleen Biondi and Andy Fryman recorded top-five finishes in their respective field events on opening day.

Biondi came in fifth in the women?s javelin throw in her first competition of the year. Biondi registered a mark of 110-07.00 to beat out nine other competitors in the event. Angela Moody of MidAmerica Nazarene University won the field event with a launch of 120-06.00.

Freshman Andy Fryman saw his best finish of his young career with his second-place performance in the hammer throw. Fryman?s mark of 169-04.00 is the fifth-best in UK school history and placed him ahead of 10 others in the competition. Andrew Diakos of Florida State won the event with a toss of 181-01.00.
