Kentucky senior Bradley Wheeldon earned a pair of top-10 individual finishes Friday at the 2004 NCAA Rifle Championships at Murray State?s Spurgin Rifle Range.
Wheeldon, a six-time All-American from Eubank, Ky., took seventh in the smallbore event with a score of 1173 out of a possible 1200 points. The score fell six points shy of the top score turned in by Alaska-Fairbanks? Matthew Rawlings. Incidentally, the 1183 score Wheeldon fired at the 2003 NCAA Championships, which earned him a runner-up finish, would have given him a 2004 national title, further validating Wheeldon?s standing as one of the top competitors in collegiate rifle.
Wheeldon?s placed ninth in the air rifle event with a 390 out of a possible 400. Murray State?s Morgan Hicks took first with a near-perfect score of 398.
Wheeldon and fellow seniors Melody Cook and Lindsey Meagher will wrap up their Wildcat careers Saturday when the Cats compete in the team smallbore event.
