University of Kentucky women?s basketball junior Sara Potts was named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team announced by The Associated Press on Monday. She also was named to the All-SEC second team by the league coaches.
Potts, a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., ranks among the SEC?s best and leads Kentucky in several statistical categories. She ended the season as the Cats? leading scorer with 16.8 points per game, including an impressive 18.4 ppg in SEC play. She was UK?s second-leading rebounder with 6.5 rebounds a game and led the Cats and the SEC in three-point shooting, averaging 3.07 three-pointers per game.
Potts holds almost all of UK?s three-point records: most three-pointers in a game (7 vs. High Point), most three-pointers in a season (74 in 2003) and most three-pointers in a career (190).
The 6-0 swing player scored in double figures 26 of 28 games this season, including a team-high 17 points vs. No. 21 Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Potts also pulled down a career-high-tying 11 rebounds against the eventual SEC Tournament Champions for her third double-double of the season. She had six games with 20-plus points, including a career-high 30 points vs. Ole Miss. Potts became the 24th member of UK?s 1,000-point club vs. Georgia, becoming just the 10th Wildcat to score 1,000 points before her senior season.
