SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico ? Kentucky followed a strong first round at the Hyatt/Dorado Beach Intercollegiate with an even better second round by firing a team total 292 on Monday. Despite Kentucky?s strong showing, it was unable to maintain the overall tournament lead as Baylor University (582) posted a 284 day two to assume first place and take a six stroke lead on the Cats (588).
Sophomore Matt Kohn posted Kentucky?s best score of the day on Monday with a two-under par 70 followed by junior John Holmes who shot a one-under par 71. Holmes, who is tied for third-place overall, is the Wildcats? top overall performer with a 143 two-day total and Kohn trails the All-American by one stroke.
Junior Brandon Waldrop has carded a 150 two-day total, followed by junior Matt Wells at 151 and freshman Cale Barr at 161. The Wildcats are missing junior Mark Blakefield, who is a regular in the lineup, due to a back injury.
The Cats will tee off the final round of the tournament Wed., March 9 at 7:40 a.m.
