Kentucky junior golfers Jack Hudson and John Holmes were recently inducted into the prestigious Frank G. Ham Society of Character along with 32 other University of Kentucky student-athletes.

The Society of Character is a part of the University of Kentucky?s CHAMPS/Life Skills Program. The program is designed to help student-athletes realize the value of higher academic achievement, a higher level of maturity, self responsibility and greater overall success. The Society was founded in 1998 to recognize those individuals who epitomize the term ?student-athlete.?

Hudson and Holmes are two exemplary student-athletes who are well deserving of the honor.

Jack Hudson Profile:

Jack Hudson is a sociology major from Greensburg, Ky., who has also taken an active role to give back to the community. Hudson serves as a tutor at Henry Clay High School and he is also a UK Athletics Outreach Development Committee Representative. He has served as a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity, Lexington Children?s Museum and participated in the Walk a Child to School Day. Hudson also participated in the UK Athletics Food Drive for God?s Pantry.

Hudson has made the Dean?s List on several occasions and was named to the Athletics Director Honor Roll in Fall 2002. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the 2002-03 school year.

John Holmes Profile:

John Holmes is arguably one of the nation?s top collegiate golfers as evident by his success in his three years at Kentucky. Holmes has held the best stroke average on the team for two seasons, and is on pace to make it three for the 2003-04 school year. He was named First Team All-SEC as a freshman and Second Team as a sophomore.

In his second season at Kentucky, Holmes was an honorable mention PING All-American and led Kentucky to six top-10 finishes. He also tied for 16th place at the NCAA National Individual Championships and was named 2002 Kentucky Golf Association Player of the Year.

This past summer, Holmes qualified for the 103rd U.S. Open Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club and medaled at the U.S. Amateur Championships in Oakmont, Pa. He also won the 84th Annual Fifth Third Bank/Callaway Golf Kentucky Open Championship.

Despite his athletic accomplishments, the Campbellsville, Ky., native has found time to give back to the community. Holmes has been a mentor to local elementary school students, volunteered at the YMCA Halloween Party, participated in the UK Athletics Food Drive for God?s Pantry and has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He plays Bingo at the UK Children?s Hospital on occasion and has also made the Dean?s List several times and was named to the 2002-03 SEC Academic Honor Roll.
