The Kentucky track and field teams had a successful weekend on the road at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Several Cats took home top-10 finishes over the weekend, highlighted by a second-place showing from senior Jeff Chakouian, who hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with his toss of 63-01.50 in the shot put at the Husker Invite.
Also in Nebraska, Kendra Patton registered a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.95. It was also a season-best for the sophomore. Olubusola Adaegbo came in sixth in a preliminary heat of the 60-meter hurdles.
The middle distance runners continued to shine at the Notre Dame Meyo Classic, as Caitlin Phillips took fifth place in her section of the 3,000-meter run in 9:39.25 and David Freeman crossed the finish line in sixth in the mile-run with a time of 4:01.47. Freeman’s performace was an NCAA qualifying mark and was less than half a second from his personal best time in the mile of 4:01.10. Brooke Patterson and Beth Heimann hit NCAA qualifying marks in the 800 meters with times of 2:08.95 and 2:06.07, repsectively.
Thomas Masthay smashed personal-best times in the 60-meter hurdles (8.16) and 400-meter dash (48.91), while Paul Ciurlys, and James Doaty finished in the top-three among their section of the 800 meters. Ciurlys came in second in 1:50.25, and Doaty lingered not far behind in 1:50.39.
The Cats return to action on Feb. 13-14 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
