The University of Kentucky swimming & diving squads suffered a pair of losses at the hands of top-ranked Auburn Saturday in Auburn, Ala. The Auburn men defeated the 22nd-ranked UK men by a 164.5-124.5 count, while the UK women took a 161-120 defeat. The Cats fall to 4-3 and 1-3 in the conference.
Sophomore Steven Manley led the Cats with an NCAA ?B? cut time of 1:37.91 in the 200-yard freestyle. The UK men claimed two other individual-event victories; junior Daniel Cruz?s win in the 200-yard butterfly and junior Jerram Chudleigh?s win in the 200-yard individual medley. The UK men also claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:21.62.
For the UK women, freshman Kari Retrum earned a narrow three-meter diving victory over fellow Wildcat Jessica Thompson. Senior Amanda Bourgeois won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.13. Junior Jessica Siegele added a 100-yard butterfly victory, while sophomore Laura Graham took first in the 200-yard individual medley. The UK women joined the UK men in capturing the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Cats return to the pool on Saturday, Feb. 7 for Senior Day against Cincinnati. The meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at UK?s Lancaster Aquatic Center.
