The University of Kentucky men?s and women?s swimming & diving squads tallied victories in record-setting style over Georgia Tech Friday evening at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta. The 22nd-ranked UK men scored a 126-109 win while the UK women earned a 127.5-107.5 victory. Both Kentucky squads improve their dual-meet records to 4-2.
Ten different Wildcats recorded individual-event victories, and Brennan Moore, Jerram Chudleigh, Laura Graham, Steven Manley and Jessica Thompson claimed two events apiece. Manley claimed the pool record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:50.90. Chudleigh did the same in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.06. Daniel Cruz?s time of 45.68 in the 100-yard freestyle set another pool record, while Jessica Siegele?s time of 2:02.99 in the 200-yard backstroke capped off the fourth pool record of the evening.
The Wildcat wins mark the second time in as many meets that Kentucky has swept an opponent. The Cats swept conference foe South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Lexington.
Kentucky faces a formidable challenge Saturday when the Cats take on the top-ranked defending NCAA Champion Auburn men?s and women?s squads. The meet kicks off at 1 p.m. ET at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Ala. Results will be updated during the meet at www.auburntigers.com.
