The Kentucky track and field team had nine individuals finish in the top-10 in their respective events on Saturday, Jan. 17, during the final day of the Kentucky Invitational. UK had one student-athlete finish at the top of her competition, as Caitlin Phillips took first place in the women?s one mile run, while teammate Brooke Patterson came in a close second.
While Phillips and Patterson had an impressive showing as the only two runners to complete the event in under five minutes, the men also had two Cats place among the top-10 performers in the mile. Justin Amason came in seventh with a time of 4:13.77, and fellow Cat Jean Balan crossed the finish line in a time of 4:14.48. Senior Thomas Morgan continued his middle distance dominance by taking second in the 3,000-meter run, the event in which he took fifth in last season at the SEC Indoor Championships, as an unattached runner.
Three-time All-American Jeff Chakouian provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in his first competition of the year in the shot put with his second-place throw of 63-10.9. Olubusola Adeagbo notched another top-10 finish for the Cats, as she ran the 60-meter hurdles finals in 8.50, good enough for sixth place.
The Cats return to action in two weeks, as they host the Rod McCravy Memorial Jan. 30-31 at the Nutter Field House.
