Kentucky bids farewell to Canfield, Davis and McCaslin on Senior Day.

The University of Kentucky volleyball team fell to the third-ranked Florida Gators, 3-0, in Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 16, giving Florida its ninth consecutive perfect Southeastern Conference season and its 12th consecutive outright SEC Championship.

Kentucky (14-15, 6-10 SEC) was lead by its senior class as Liz McCaslin had nine kills and a match-high 14 digs, while Sissy Canfield totaled eight kills in the match. Julie Davis earned a start in her final home match and had two kills and one block. Sarah Spinner also was strong for UK with 11 kills and five digs. Kentucky was out-hit by UF, .394-.115.

Five unanswered Kentucky points would start game one. Sound Gator defense would put them back in the game at 11-9. A five-point Florida run put the Gators ahead for the first time at 14-13. Leading 21-19, the Gators would capitalize off four consecutive plays, forcing Kentucky to take a timeout. Spinner would lead Kentucky in kills for the game with six. On .475 hitting by the Gators, the Wildcats would lose the first go-round, 30-23.

UK first to start the second game, but the Gators used a 15-3 run to stretch out to the 15-4 lead. Kentucky hit -.086 in the game and handed UF the 30-14 game victory on a shot by Sherri Williams.

The two teams would match point-for-point in the start of game three. Florida would break away at 12, however, scoring four consecutive points. A kill by Canfield would bring Kentucky within five at 20-15. Canfield would come through again for the Cats, cutting the Gator lead to four at 24-20, but Florida would reign victorious over Kentucky, 30-23, to seal the win.

The Wildcats will travel to Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 and will open action in the SEC Tournament at South Carolina?s Volleyball Competition Facility on Friday, Nov. 21. The Cats await word on seating as the league closes competition this afternoon.
