Austin, Martirosyan move on in doubles play

Kentucky sophomore Nate Emge claimed a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Southern California’s Daniel Langre on Friday to advance to the next round at the Southern California Intercollegiate event in Los Angeles. Juniors Evan Austin and Tigran Martirosyan claimed two doubles victories to advance to Saturday’s doubles semifinals.

At the 2003 Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga., UK sophomore Alex Hume survived a long, three-set battle against Georgia’s Ricardo Gonzalex, who was forced to retire due to injury. Hume also teamed up with freshman Matt Allinder to capture an 8-4 doubles victory over Georgia’s Stephan Timu and Adam Van Loan.

After a tough three-set loss in the opening round of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor event in Ann Arbor, Mich., junior Jesse Witten bounced back with two victories on the day in consolation play. Witten defeated Illinois’ Michael Calkins 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 before scoring an easy 6-0, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals over Jamie Cerretani of Brown.
