Kentucky goalkeeper tallied a record six shutouts in conference play.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Mid-American Conference office recognized Kentucky goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum as the Player of the Week for the second time this season. The sophomore helped UK complete an undefeated run through regular season conference play when it blanked Northern Illinois, 1-0, this past Friday.

Gruenebaum recorded 17 saves and did not relinquish a goal through six regular season conference matches. His six shutouts against conference opponents is a league record and he currently has nine shutouts on the season. Gruenebaum is tied with former Wildcat Brian O’Leary for second for the most single season shutouts.

The Overland Park, Kan., native was named MAC Player of the Week in the eighth week of the season after recording shutouts over conference foes Western Michigan and No. 12 Akron.

Kentucky players have garnered five of the league’s 10 Player of the Week honors this season, including the last three consecutive awards. Jamal Shteiwi (9/22, 10/27) received the honor twice and freshman Riley O’Neill (10/6) was recognized after scoring three goals in two games.

The Wildcats (12-5-1, 6-0-0 MAC), who are ranked No. 28 in the College Soccer News poll, earned the No. 1 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament which takes place Nov. 7 & 9 in Bowling Green, Ohio. UK will face the Northern Illinois (3-12-2, 2-4-0 MAC)-Bowling Green State (6-8-5, 2-3-1 MAC) winner, Sunday at 3 p.m. in the semifinals. As the tournament’s top seed, Kentucky will host the championships of the tournament Nov. 14, 15, or 16, if it advances in the semifinal round.
