Four University of Kentucky women’s tennis newcomers advanced to the round of 32 Friday at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Junior Aibika Kalsarieva made short work of Western Carolina’s Kristin Munn, 6-0, 6-0. Saturday, she’ll take on Kristin Cargill of Duke at 9 a.m. Freshman Christine Simpson defeated South Carolina’s 7-6, 6-0, and will advance to Saturday’s round of 32 against North Carolina’s Aniela Mojzis. Freshman Lara Maurer dispatched Sylwia Ziolkowska of East Tennessee State by a 6-4, 6-2 count. She’ll play Jenna Long of North Carolina on Saturday. Finally, freshman Sarah Foster ousted Laura Swain of UNC-Charlotte, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0. She’ll battle Sabgita Maharaj of Tennessee on Saturday.

Junior Danielle Petrisko and freshman Joelle Schwenk each dropped their singles matches Friday.In doubles action, Foster and Kalsarieva won two doubles matches to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
