TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 26 Kentucky men’s golf team sits in seventh place after two rounds at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla. The Wildcats shot a three-under par 285 in the first round followed by a three-over par 291 second round to finish the day with a 576 par.
No. 5 Georgia Tech is the leader through two rounds after shooting a 272 round one followed by a 283 second round for a 555 day one total. The Yellow Jackets lead Arkansas by 12 strokes in the 15-team tournament.
Kentucky juniors John Holmes (73,69 – 142) and Mark Blakefield (67,75 – 142) are currently tied for 14th place overall to lead the Cats. Blakefield’s first round 67 is a career low for the Maysville, Ky., native and is the season-low for any UK golfer this season.
John Assay (135) of College of Charleston holds a one stroke lead over North Carolina State’s Fernando Mecheraffe and Georgia Tech’s Nicholas Thompson (136).
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the third and final round.
