Sophomore goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum garnered national recognition for his play in goal this past weekend. The Overland Park, Kan., native was named to the College Soccer News “National Team of the Week” and Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, Monday.

Gruenebaum recorded two shutouts against Mid-American Conference opponents this past weekend. On Friday, he recorded six saves in UK’s 3-0 win over Western Michigan. Two days later, Gruenebaum made several key plays in the Wildcats’ 1-0 win over then No. 12 Akron. The Cats have not relinquished a goal in three MAC games this season.

Gruenebaum, who now has seven shutouts on the season, is the third Kentucky player to earn MAC Player of the Week honors this season. Junior Jamal Shteiwi and freshman Riley O’Neill received the honor earlier in the season.

The Wildcats’ wins over Western Michigan and Akron moved their record to 9-4-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in the MAC. Kentucky is the only remaining undefeated team in conference play and is tied for sixth with Michigan State in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region Coaches poll. UK also received votes for the College Soccer News and Soccer Times Top-25 polls.

The Cats face two more conference foes this upcoming weekend, Buffalo at home on Friday and Marshall in Huntington, W.Va. on Sunday.
