Weekly Game Notes in PDF Format

Homecoming Parade Set for Friday: The annual Homecoming Parade will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. The parade will turn right on University Drive, turn right on Hilltop Avenue, turn left on Woodland Avenue, turn left on Columbia Avenue, turn right on Rose Street, turn left on Euclid Avenue, then end at Stoll Field in front of Memorial Coliseum.

Following the parade at 8 p.m., the Lexington-based band The Schuers will perform at Stoll Field. At 9:15 p.m., country music star Mark Wills will perform until 11 p.m.

The parade and concert performances are free of charge.

Additional Events on Friday: In addition to the Homecoming Parade, the following events will take place on Friday:

Volleyball, Kentucky vs. LSU, 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum (free admission)

Men’s soccer, Kentucky vs. Western Michigan, 7:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex; admission is $5 for the general public, free for UK students with a valid ID card

“Big Blue Madness,” celebrating the opening of men’s and women’s basketball season, begins at 10:30 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. Tickets are required and all tickets have been distributed.

Team Will Have “Cat Walk” as Wildcats Arrive at Gate 9: Fans are encouraged to meet the team when the Wildcats arrive for the Ohio game at approximately 4:45 p.m. at Gate 9. The players will make the “Cat Walk” from Gate 9 to their stadium entry point at Gate 12. Fans are encouraged to line up on the sidewalk and cheer the team as it enters the stadium.

The “Cat Walk” is organized by the families of the players, a group that has organized as the Wildcat Football Family Association.

Pre-Game Fun at Commonwealth Stadium: The following activities are available for fans before the Ohio game:

The Wildcat Refuge, featuring giant inflatable games, opens at 4 p.m. outside stadium gate 9

“Rally in the Alley,” featuring live band “Fun With Jello,” begins at 5 p.m. between the stadium and the Nutter Field House

The Alltel Tailgate Tour, featuring a series of interactive events, begins at 5 p.m. and will be located outside stadium gate 4, near the stadium ticket booth

The U. S. Army will have an interactive display area, including a rock-climbing wall, located in the Blue Parking Lot near the corner of Alumni Drive and University Drive

Game-Day Honorees: The game-day honorary activities include:

During pre-game ceremonies, there will be a moment of silence in honor of Edward T. “Ned” Breathitt, former Kentucky Governor and Chairman of the UK Board of Trustees

At the end of the first quarter, UK President Lee Todd and First Lady Patsy Todd, along with members of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and University Registrar, will recognize several of UK’s 2003 National Merit Scholars. UK is among the nation’s top-15 public institutions in enrolling freshman National Merit Scholars. UK’s 2003 freshman class features 45 National Merit Scholars, more than all other universities in Kentucky combined.

The presentation of the Homecoming King and Queen and Homecoming Court will take place at halftime

Also at halftime, Harold and Barbara Stephen will be recognized. The Stephens’ barn has been painted with a UK logo as part of the “UK Barnstorming” program. The Stephens live on Highway 42, near Carollton in Carroll County.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to Sell Balloons: The UK Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will have a balloon release at the Ohio game.

The event is a fundraiser for the SAAC. Balloons cost one dollar each and fans will be able to buy a balloon while tailgating or as they enter the stadium. The balloons will be released at kickoff.

Flowers, Seitze are Game Captains for Ohio: Junior cornerback Earven Flowers and senior center Nick Seitze have earned the nods as game captains this week, joining permanent captains Vincent “Sweet Pea” Burns and Jared Lorenzen.

Flowers had five tackles and two pass breakups in last week’s game at South Carolina. He leads the team in pass breakups with six. Flowers also was game captain against Indiana. Seitze has started every game in 2003 at center and has a streak of 24 consecutive starting assignments.

UK Swimmer/Army Veteran to Serve as Honorary Game Captain: Eddie Clement, a UK senior and member of the Wildcat swimming and diving team, will serve as honorary captain for the Ohio game.

Clement is a native of London, England, who came to Kentucky in 1999 to swim for the Wildcats. Envisioning a military career after college, Clement joined the Army National Guard in 2001 and was called to active duty in Oct. 2002. He served the last seven months on a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and returned to the United States on Oct. 1.

Change in Television Announcers for Ohio Game: Former Wildcat quarterback Bill Ransdell, who usually serves as the analyst for UKTV Network telecasts, will be out of town for the Ohio game, necessitating a change in the announcing lineup this week.

Drew Deener moves from the sidelines to do the broadcast booth to handle Ransdell’s role as the analyst. Brian Milam of WYMT-TV will do Deener’s job as sideline reporter.

Tickets Available for Ohio, Mississippi State, and Arkansas: Tickets are available for the Ohio, Mississippi State, and Arkansas games at a cost of $29 and $22 each.

The Ohio game will be Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The Mississippi State game will be Oct. 25 at 12:30 p.m. The Arkansas game is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m., but game time will change if it is selected for network television. All three games will be played in Commonwealth Stadium.
