The University of Kentucky rifle team kicked off its 2003-04 season Saturday with a bang, running away with a victory at Ohio State. The Wildcats tallied an impressive 6195 aggregate score, while the Buckeyes registered a mere 6034.
The Wildcats’ second team produced a better showing than the Ohio State first team. Kentucky’s second team tallied a 6069 aggregate for the day. The Buckeyes’ second team could manage only a 5991 on the afternoon.
“I am really proud of our team,” UK Coach Harry Mullins said. “They worked so hard coming into the match this week and got off to a good start. Now we have to get ready for the next series of matches in two weeks.”
The Cats open the season 1-0 and return to action on Friday, October 24. Kentuckyill meet Nebraska in Fairbanks, Alas. and will remain in Alaska the following day to take on five-time defending NCAA champion Alaska-Fairbanks.
