LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team will play its fourth Southeastern Conference road match of the 2003 season when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday, Oct. 12 to face the Tennessee Lady Vols. The match starts at 2 p.m. in Stokely Athletics Center on the UT campus.
Kentucky (10-7, 2-3 SEC) is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping an exciting 3-2 match at South Carolina on Wednesday. It marked the first time in two seasons that the Cats had taken a game off the Gamecocks and saw outstanding performances from Melissa Popp, Julie Davis and Liz McCaslin.
Tennessee starts the week with a 12-4 overall record and an even 2-2 tally in SEC play. The Volunteers will play host to the Gamecocks’ on Friday night before facing Kentucky on Sunday.
The Vols earned wins over Mississippi State and Ole Miss to open league play two weeks ago, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Georgia and a 3-0 match to Florida last week on the road. Kristen Andre averages 3.45 kills per game to lead the squad, while Amy Norris is the team’s top digger with a 3.31 dpg average.
Rob Patrick is in his seventh season at UT, holding a record of 124-78. Kentucky owns a 34-18 series lead over Tennessee, but has lost the last four meetings. The Cats’ last win over UT came on Nov. 12, 2000, a 3-1 finish in Lexington.
