The Kentucky women’s golf team finished in fourth place Sunday at the Wildcat Fall Invitational held at the University Club of Kentucky. The Cats shot a 320 in the final round en route to the finish, while Vanderbilt fired a tournament low 303 to take home top team honors. Meghan Little earned medalist honors after shooting a cumulative 227 through three rounds.
UK freshman Marissa Muir, who came into the final round in a tie for first, shot an 85 on Sunday to secure eighth place among the 96 participants. Eva Gessner held steady with a final round of 79, earning the senior 17th place with a 237 tournament total. Erin Faulkner led the Cats on Sunday with a four-over 76, propelling her to 24th place in the standings, and Emily Culbertson (245) finished not far behind in a tie for 40th.
Mississippi State (941) ended the tournament 15 shots off the lead and was named runner-up, while North Carolina Wilmington (946) placed just ahead of UK in third. Little earned medalist honors after a one-hole playoff with Vanderbilt’s Chris Brady, and Amanda Mathis of MSU finished one shot off the lead with a 228.
UK resumes play on Oct. 24 in Fort Walton, Fla., when they compete in the 2003 ACC-SEC Challenge, hosted by Florida State University. UK finished 11th in the annual tournament last year.
