CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team took home its second top-five finish of the fall season when it placed third at North Carolina’s Franklin Street Partners Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 5. The 21st-ranked Wildcats had a final round score of 303, while junior John Holmes finished at even par to take fifth-place honors in the event.
Joining Holmes in the top-10 was sophomore Matt Kohn, who shot a two-over par 74 in the final round to finish 10th. Close behind was junior Mark Blakefield with a total of 222 on the weekend to tie for 11th place. Brad Doster finished tied for 32nd place, while freshman Cale Barr was 41st in the event.
With just one fall event left on the UK schedule, the Cats have already racked up top-10 showings in all three fall tourneys. Kentucky hit the ground running in September, winning the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Tournament before taking sixth place at the Mason Rudolph Championship Sept. 22-23.
The Wildcats close the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 20-21 at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla.
