CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 21 Kentucky men’s golf team finished day one of the Franklin Street Partners Invitational tied for third place with SEC foe, Alabama, with a team total 292. North Carolina, the host team of the tournament, leads after shooting a first round 287 followed by No. 6 Georgia Southern, 288.

Junior All-American John Holmes was UK’s top performer of day one. The Campbellsville, Ky., native shot a four-under par 68 to end the day in third place behind Georgia Southern’s Toshi Hirata (65) and Ted Smith (66) from North Carolina. UK Junior Mark Blakefield shot a 70 to earn a tie for fifth place.

The nine-team tournament will continue with the second round on Saturday, Oct. 4, and conclude with the third and final round, Sunday, Oct. 5.
