All Eight Draws

The University of Kentucky women’s tennis program plays host to the Kentucky Fall Classic beginning Friday, Oct. 3 at UK’s Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The three-day tournament marks Kentucky’s first appearance on the courts since its showing at the Baylor Fall Invitational on Sept. 21.

Participating in the eight singles and doubles brackets are student-athletes from Abilene Christian, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, William & Mary and host Kentucky. Competition is slated to begin at 9 a.m. EDT each morning with play scheduled to conclude Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Mark Guilbeau’s Wildcats are eager to return to the courts after strong performances at the Baylor Fall Invitational. Transfer Aibika Kalsarieva advanced to the finals of the green singles bracket before falling to Petra Dizdar of Texas. One loss meant little to junior Danielle Petrisko and freshman Joelle Schwenk, as the pair went on to win the remainder of their matches to capture the singles consolation brackets. Kalsarieva also advanced to the finals of the gold doubles bracket with freshman Sarah Foster, while Maurer and Schwenk took the green consolation doubles bracket.

Guilbeau is excited about the upcoming weekend of tennis.

“We had a good showing a couple of weeks ago and we’d like to build upon what we did at Baylor. We have a young team, so this weekend gives us another chance to get our newcomers some significant experience,” Guilbeau said.
