Caudill, Thornton Earn Game Captain Honors: Senior defensive tackle Jeremy Caudill and junior punter Anthony Thornton are the game captains this week, joining permanent captains Jared Lorenzen and Vincent “Sweet Pea” Burns.
According to Coach Rich Brooks, Caudill played his best game of the season last Saturday at Indiana, notching three tackles and a quarterback sack. Thornton had his best game as a Wildcat, averaging 46.3 yards per punt, and was named Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Game-Day Honorees: At the end of the first quarter, University President Lee Todd, First Lady Patsy Todd, and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart will honor UK’s two Verizon Academic All-Americans from the 2002-03 school year, Simidele Adeagbo (pronounced sim-uh-DEL-ee ah-dee-AUG-bo) and Lyndsey Angus.
Adeagbo, from Louisville, Ky., was selected first-team Academic All-America from the women’s track and field team. She had a 3.89 grade point average with a major in journalism and earned four All-America honors during her career as a track athlete. Currently, Adeagbo is working on her master’s degree at UK.
Angus, a catcher on the softball team, earned second-team Academic All-America honors with a 3.31 grade point average with a major in kinesiology. The senior from Leominster, Mass., was a three-time All-SEC selection on the playing field. She broke the single-season walks record and finished her career as the second-leading hitter in school history.
At halftime, UK will honor Mark Edwards, Linda Wright, Dick Edwards, and Maria Edwards, whose barn is featured in the “UK Barnstorming” project. Their 40-acre horse farm is nestled in the foothills of southeastern Kentucky in Owsley County and has been a part of their family for more than 125 years. The family raises and breeds Rocky Mountain Pleasure Horses. The “UK Barnstorming” promotion will have one barn or farm building in each Kentucky county painted with the “Go Big Blue” logo.
Remember, Game Time Changed: Fans need to remember that the Florida at Kentucky game time was changed to 12:30 p.m. for the Jefferson-Pilot “SEC Game of the Week” telecast.
Florida Game a Sellout: The Kentucky students have acquired all of their ticket allotment, making Saturday’s game vs. Florida a sellout.
Tickets remain for Kentucky’s home games against Ohio (Oct. 18), Mississippi State (Oct. 25), and Arkansas (Nov. 1). Tickets cost $29 or $22 each and may be purchased at the UK Ticket Office at Memorial Coliseum on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., over the phone at 1-800-928-CATS, or via the internet at ukathletics.com.
All public tickets have been sold for the Nov. 29 game vs. Tennessee.
Pre-Game Traffic Update: Huguelet Drive, located between Rose Street and University Drive, will be accessible to permit holders in Parking Structure 1 and the White, Red, and Orange lots.
Post-Game Traffic Update: Here is an update on two post-game traffic changes. Exit traffic patterns will be enforced by Lexington police up to 30-45 minutes following the end of the game.
Post-game east-bound traffic on Alumni Drive will be routed south (right turn only) on Tates Creek Pike
Post-game traffic on Tates Creek Pike, coming from Cooper Drive, will be routed east on Alumni Drive (left turn only) toward Chinoe Road, New Circle Road, and Man O’War Boulevard.
Ag Roundup to be Held in Orange Lot: Fans who park in the Orange Lot should be aware that the annual College of Agriculture “Ag Roundup” will be held on Saturday and will take up some of the space in that lot. Fans with Orange Lot passes are asked to tighten tailgate activities so that as many cars as possible can be accommodated.
Shakers to be Given Away: Approximately 30,000 blue-and-white shakers will be given away at the stadium gates.
ESPN The Magazine to Have Interactive Display at the Game: ESPN The Magazine will be at the game and have an interactive area and giveaways for fans. ESPN will be located in the grass area next to the Commonwealth Stadium ticket office.
Team Will Have “Cat Walk” as Wildcats Arrive at Gate 9: Fans are encouraged to meet the team when the Wildcats arrive at approximately 10:15 a.m. at Gate 9. The players will make the “Cat Walk” from Gate 9 to their stadium entry point at Gate 12. Fans are encouraged to line up on the sidewalk and cheer the team as it enters the stadium.
The “Cat Walk” is organized by the families of the players, a group that has organized as the Wildcat Football Family Association.
Wildcat Refuge: Fans of all ages, but especially the younger Wildcats, will enjoy playing at the Wildcat Refuge, located outside the southwest corner (outside Gate 9) of Commonwealth Stadium. There are five giant inflatable games that are available beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to the inflatable games, there will be autograph sessions with UK sports teams, face painting, and an autograph tent with the Scratch mascot.
The Wildcat Refuge debuted at Fans’ Day on Aug. 9 and was a huge success.
Rally in the Alley: The “Rally in the Alley” is a new tailgate area for students, located between Commonwealth Stadium and Nutter Field House at gates 14 & 15.
At 10:30 a.m., the band “Fun With Jello” will entertain the students. In addition to live music, local radio stations 104.5 The Cat and 100.1 Double Q will be on hand to add to the excitement.
UK student give-a-ways from Lexington businesses will be available and students also will be able to register to win a convertible Volkswagen Beetle.
UK Marching Band Will Parade Around Stadium: The UK Marching Band will parade around the stadium, beginning at approximately one hour prior to kickoff. The band parade will begin at Gate 4 and end at Gate 9.
