Sept. 21, 2003
TEMPE, Ariz. – Kentucky surrendered three first-half goals and went scoreless for the second-consecutive match, dropping a 4-0 decision to Arizona State at ASU Soccer Stadium. Kentucky drops to 2-5-1 while ASU jumps to 5-1-1.
The Arizona State scoring began in the sixth minute when Holly Azevedo headed a Brittany Cooper corner kick into the right side of the goal past goalkeeper Anne Ogundele. After an apparent goal by UK’s Heather Saas was nullified by a handball call, the Sun Devils responded in the 33rd minute with a Cooper 22-yard line drive into the upper right portion of the goal for a 2-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Cooper escaped the Kentucky defense for a breakaway goal from 18 yards out for a 3-0 ASU margin.
Six minutes into the second half, ASU’s Manya Makoski chipped in a 15-yarder past an approaching Ogundele to net the Sun Devils’ final goal. Missed opportunities plagued Kentucky in the second half as Elizabeth Ramsey’s 62nd minute line drive and Jen Wilkinson’s 71st-minute shot both struck the crossbar.
Kentucky begins conference play on Friday, Sept. 26 at Vanderbilt.
