SEC Launches SECKids.com: The Southeastern Conference has become the first conference in the nation to introduce a kid-friendly version of its web site for young fans. The site, www.SECKids.com, launched Sept. 9 with colorful graphics, lively sounds and interactive games.
This unique web site presents innovative ways for young sports fans to learn more about their favorite conference schools, SEC student-athletes, and the principles of sportsmanship.
“We are very pleased to enhance our internet offerings with an exciting and educational website that will feature the conference and its twelve member institutions.” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. “With studies showing that young people are using the internet more than any other medium, it is important for the SEC to utilize this platform to help teach our youth that athletic success can only be achieved when it is preceded by academic success. This is essential to the development of our future student-athletes.”
This site follows a successful computer-based SEC Education Initiative. The program, called “Kid’s College(tm),” is entering its second year of providing schools educational software. The 2003-04 release of Kid’s
College will be available online to every public and private K-8 school classroom in the nine-state SEC region in late September. The SECKids.com site features an interactive link for teachers to register the web-based version of Kid’s College for their classroom.
SECKids.com will use popular internet features, like graphics and games to show kids “how to be a champion.” The site, which features the 2002-03 McWhorter SEC Scholar Athletes of the Year, also creatively introduces young people to the campus and traditions of each SEC member institution. A group of 20 kids, ranging from five to 14, consulted with the design team. Kids from across the SEC area will provide continuous input on the site’s effectiveness.
SECKids.com is produced by Host Interactive, a division of Host Communications, which produces some of the nation’s most popular sports web sites, including www.SECsports.com.
