LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UK women’s soccer team scored two quick goals Monday and never looked back, posting an easy 4-1 victory over Western Kentucky at the UK Soccer Complex. The Cats move to 2-0 on the season, while Western drops to 0-2.

Senior Elizabeth Ramsey put the Cats on the board in the 17th minute when she took a pass from Danielle Slupski and lined a shot off the hands of goalkeeper Becky Kasper to put the Cats on top. The goal moved Ramsey into third place on the UK career individual points list.

Ten minutes later, Heather Saas took a feed from Ramsey, via Jen Wilkinson and tallied her first goal of the season to give UK a 2-0 cushion. Western struck back eight minutes later when Jenna Silverberg beat goalkeeper Anne Ogundele to cut the lead in half. But only five minutes later, Kristin Moyer took a cross from Alli Haeussler and drilled the ball through the left side of the goal to give Kentucky a 3-1 lead going into the intermission.

Ten minutes into the second half, sophomore Ashley Schillig, in her first season at Kentucky after starring at Marshall in 2002, scored her first goal as a Wildcat by beating Kasper to her left with a sharp line drive to put the match out of reach for the Hilltoppers. Ogundele played all 90 minutes in goal for Kentucky to pick up her first career victory.

UK Coach Warren Lipka saw some positives in the Cats’ weekend sweep.

“We really played well this weekend and it was great to see our team get after it again today. This gives us some momentum going into next weekend,” Lipka said.

The Cats head to Tobacco Road next weekend for the Nike Carolina Classic. Kentucky will face top-ranked North Carolina this Friday, Sept. 5 in Chapel Hill, N.C., the first meeting between the two schools on the pitch.
