The UK golf program will help kick off the 2003 football season by playing host to the Fourth Annual Kentucky vs. Louisville Golf Tournament on Aug. 30 at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington. The tournament will feature 60 Wildcat fans teeing up against 60 Cardinal golfers and will be played in a Ryder Cup match play format. Tournament proceeds will benefit UK’s golf programs.

“We have had great positive feedback from the first three years of the tournament,” Director of Golf Operations Bettie Lou Evans said. “We are anticipating yet another great turnout this year.”

UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and U of L A.D. Tom Jurich will be pitted against each other in match play, and UK National Coach of the Year Tubby Smith and golf coaches Brian Craig and Stephanie Martin Barker will participate for the Wildcats.

The UK vs. U of L Challenge originated in 2000 at the Lake Forest Country Club in Louisville. The second annual event was held at the University Club in Lexington, with last year’s event being held at the Cardinal Club of Lousiville.

The Cardinals have a limited number of spots remaining. For more information on the tournament, contact Matt DiLorenzo in the UK athletics department at (859) 257-7382 or Evans at (859) 257-2941.
