LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior guard Gerald Fitch underwent surgery to repair a hernia at the UK Medical Center on Tuesday morning. The procedure was performed on an outpatient basis.

“Gerald is an integral part of our basketball team,” Coach Tubby Smith said. “We are thankful that by addressing the problem now, Gerald will be back to full strength when the team reports for the fall semester.”

Fitch returns for his senior season with three years of starting experience. He’s the top returning scorer for the Wildcats after averaging 12.3 ppg as a junior. Fitch is just 78 points shy of becoming the 50th member of UK’s 1,000-point club.
