Host Communications has produced a “Team Supreme” video/DVD that highlights the 2003 Kentucky basketball season.
The video contains original interviews, highlights and behind-the-scenes footage from the Wildcats’ successful season in which they swept the Southeastern Conference schedule, won the league tournament and finished the season as the nation’s top-ranked team.
The video is available in 75 Kroger stores across Kentucky and online at ukauthentic.com for $14.99 for the VHS, $19.99 for the DVD.
Smith Named to Leadership Conference
Leon Smith, the director of men’s basketball operations at Kentucky, is among 22 athletics administrators selected by the NCAA for the 2003-04 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males.
Smith, a former Kentucky football letterman, joined Tubby Smith’s staff in 2001 after serving as a special assistant in the Wildcats’ basketball office during the 1998 and ’99 seasons. Prior to his return to Kentucky, he worked for USA Basketball and the NCAA.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to enhance my skills as an administrator in our athletics department,” Smith said.
The Leadership Institute is designed as a model for ethnic minority athletics administrators to receive training and acquire skill sets necessary to advance to leadership roles in athletics. Selected participants will complete four professional development sessions, practical work experiences and a week-long intensive workshop at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.
Fox E-Alert on the Cats
Fans of Kentucky athletics who subscribe to cable network Fox Sports South can get E-mail updates of upcoming games or programs featuring the Wildcats. The new Fox Sports Net E-Alert system can be found on Foxsports.com. Users can type in “South” as the keyword and the E-Alert prompt will follow at the top of the screen.
Fox Sports South is broadcast on local cable or dish services and focuses its coverage on Southern sports. It also airs selected UK sporting events, including men’s basketball, as a member of the Southeastern Conference television package.
Media Guide
The 2003 Kentucky basketball media guide garnered “Best in the Nation” honors for the eighth time since 1992, the College Sports Information Directors announced earlier this month.
Brooks Downing and Mandy Polley of the UK Media Relations office wrote and compiled the 292-page book used by media representatives around the nation, while the UK Publications office and creative director Jamie Barker led the design on the project.
