LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky track and field athletes Simidele Adeagbo and Ben Brewster have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District First Team and will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors next month, it was announced today.
Adeagbo, a senior journalism major from Louisville, Ky., sports a 3.894 grade point average and has been named All-America in the triple jump three times in her career. It marks the second consecutive year that Adeagbo has been named to the first team in only the second year of the award. Prior to last season, track athletes were included in an at-large team which included a variety of sports.
Teammates Beth Heimann and Janet Crawford were named to the All-District Second Team. Heimann, an elementary education major from Germantown, Ill., holds a 3.806 GPA and is competing this weekend for the Wildcats at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Crawford is a senior from Hillsboro, Ky., majoring in kinesiology. Her career was cut short this week after a foot injury sidelined her for the rest of her final season.
Brewster, a junior from Findlay, Ohio, runs sprints and hurdles for UK and holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in biology. Fellow runner Thomas Morgan was named to the second team with a 3.30 average in finance. Morgan also is among those competing this weekend for a chance to go to the NCAA Championships. He hails from Lexington, Ky.
The Verizon Track and Field Academic All-America teams will be announced June 17.
