Stillwater, Okla. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team was unable to get into a groove on the second day of the NCAA Championships at the Karsten Creek Golf Course, as they fell from 17th to 25th place in the 30-team field. The Wildcats shot a 35-over par 323 to slip eight spots.
After leading the team with an even par 72 yesterday, sophomore John Holmes led the Cats again on day two, firing a four-over 76. He dropped from fifth to 12th in the individual race. Sophomore Brandon Waldrop walked into the clubhouse after shooting a six-over 78. Freshman Matt Kohn struggled on the front nine and came in with an 82. Sophomore Mark Blakefield came in with a 15-over 85 while senior Ryan Coyne was unable to knock down a birdie all day and finished with an 18-over 90.
“We had a couple players do fairly well today but this course is very difficult for such a young team and we’re having a hard time dealing with it,” Coach Brian Craig said. “All the scores are pretty high so if we can put up a good score tomorrow we can pass a lot of teams.”
Day three of the four day Championships will begin Thursday morning as the Wildcats will tee off starting at approximately 7:15 a.m. CT. All of Wednesday’s complete team and individual results plus live scoring on Thursday are available at golfstat.com.
