COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Kentucky track and field team had 10 top-10 performances in two different track meets on Friday, May 2. Kentucky took six of the places at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio, while the other four rankings came at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
Sisters Kenya and Kendra Patton shined in the 200 meters in Columbus, with Kenya winning the event with a time of 24.59, while her twin took fourth with a time of 24.96. Freshman Takia Brooks finished fourth in the 400 meters with a finish in 56.88.
Teammate Olubusola Adeagbo took home seventh-place honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:04.75. In the men’s run of the same event, Tom Masthay finished second in 53.76, while Ben Brewster took 10th with a time of 55.83. UK’s last competitor on Friday was Gennessa Guzman, who finished 12th in the hammer with a throw of 166-00.00.
Out west, UK’s 800-meter performers looked dazzling. Chad Johnson and Paul Ciurlys took third and fourth place, respectively. Johnson crossed the line in 1:48.53, while Ciurlys earned his spot with a time of 1:49.04. Kris Landers was eighth in the race with a time of 1:50.63.
David Freeman led the way in the men’s 1,500 meters with a 3:42.65 finish. On the women’s side, Roseline Addo took 17th in the women’s 800 meters, while Beth Heimann was 18th. In the 1,500 meters, Candace Leep took 24th with a time of 4:31.212, while Brooke Patterson’s time of 4:34.05 to finish 29th.
The Ohio State meet continues on Saturday, May 3. The rest of the team returns to action on Thursday, May 15 at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
