PHILADELPHIA – The University of Kentucky track and field teams opened competition at the 109th annual Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia, Pa., on Thursday, April 24. The Wildcats competed in four events on the day with the women’s 4 x 100-meter relay team taking second in its heat and Simidele Adeagbo claiming fifth place in the women’s long jump.

Adeagbo’s jump of 20-01.00 was a season-best for the senior from Louisville, Ky. The women’s relay team, comprised of Talonda Ingram, Simidele Adeagbo, Olubusola Adeagbo and Kendra Patton, crossed the line in 46.98 to take second in the seventh heat of the race.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Brooke Patterson, Roseline Addo, Beth Heimann and Caitlin Phillips took 13th overall in the collegiate race, whit a time of 11:45.87. Rounding out Thursday’s competitors was Olubusola Adeagbo, who took 33rd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.63.

The Wildcats return to the track tomorrow at 12:50 p.m. for the women’s 4 x 1,500-meter relay, just after Simidele Adeagbo competes for the women’s triple jump title at 12:30 p.m. UK also will send a group of competitors to Louisville, Ky., on Friday for the Cardinal Invitational.
