2003 Women’s Soccer Fall Schedule
The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team released its 2003 fall schedule Monday, and Coach Warren Lipka has put together a challenging slate that should help the Wildcats prepare for a seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky will face six teams that appeared in the 2002 NCAA Tournament, including a match against 17-time NCAA Champion North Carolina, who advanced to the College Cup last season.
The Wildcats will begin their quest to return to the NCAA Tournament by playing host to Davidson and Western Kentucky at the UK Soccer Complex in August. Kentucky will then travel to Chapel Hill to compete in the prestigious Nike Carolina Classic against Atlantic Coast Conference-foes North Carolina and Duke. The Tar Heels were the champions of the ACC a year ago and ended the season ranked No. 3 in the nation.
The Cats will then entertain Brigham Young and Rutgers during the UK Invitational, scheduled for the second weekend of September, before heading west to face Arizona and Arizona State. Kentucky’s Southeastern Conference itinerary includes trips to Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and South Carolina. UK will play host to Louisiana State, Arkansas, Georgia and defending SEC Champion Tennessee.
Southern Methodist, another 2002 NCAA Tournament qualifier, will be the featured guest for Wildcat Senior Night on Friday, October 31. The Wildcats look to qualify for their league-leading 11th SEC Tournament appearance and a seventh showing in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats will return their top three scorers, including All-Great Lakes and two-time All-SEC selection Elizabeth Ramsey, who led the team in all major offensive categories a season ago. Goalkeeper Liz Butler, a Soccer Buzz freshman All-American, will look to build on an impressive introductory season.
