The University of Kentucky track & field squad accumulated six first-place finishes at the Spec Towns Invitational Saturday at the University of Georgia. The UK men finished fourth, while collecting two event titles, and the UK women took four event titles, resulting in a second-place finish.

Junior Beth Heimann led the way for Kentucky with wins in the 800 and 1500-meter runs. Heimann finished the 800 in 2:10.68 and completed the 1500 in 4:31.69. Junior Brooke Patterson finished second to Heimann in the 1500 with a time of 4:32.26.

UK also collected a victory in the 800-meter dash on the men’s side, as junior Jean Balan led the rest of the pack with a time of 1:51.22. Juniors James Doaty and Paul Ciurlys finished second and third with times of 1:51.72 and 1:52.20, respectively. Also collecting a victory for the UK men was senior Thomas Morgan. Morgan’s time of 9:26.99 was good for first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

All-Americans Simidele Adeagbo and Janet Crawford rounded out the scoring for Kentucky with event titles of their own. Adeagbo won the triple jump with a distance of 42-01.25, while Crawford took the high jump with a leap of 5-10.

Kentucky will resume competition April 3-5 when they take part in the Texas Relays at the University of Texas.
