LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith has been named the Associated Press Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year, it was announced Tuesday. It’s the second such honor for Smith, who shared the award with Tennessee’s Jerry Green in 1998.

The AP also named Keith Bogans first-team All-SEC, while Marquis Estill took second-team honors. Tennessee big man Ron Slay was named SEC Player of the Year by the writers, while Florida’s Anthony Roberson was the Newcomer of the Year.

Bogans, Smith Earn USBWA All-District Honors

The United States Basketball Writers Association has named Keith Bogans and Tubby Smith its District IV Player and Coach of the Year, it was announced Tuesday. Bogans joins seven other Southeastern Conference players on the 10-man team comprised of players from Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

Also named to the All-District squad were Jarvis Hayes (Georgia), Matt Bonner (Florida), Mario Austin (Miss. St.), Ron Slay (Tennessee), Reece Gaines (Louisville), Erwin Dudley (Alabama), Marquis Daniels (Auburn), Chris Massie (Memphis) and Ezra Williams (Georgia).
