The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished 17th in the 19-team Texas A&M “Mo”morial Invitational Tuesday in Houston, Texas. The competition was extended to 36 holes today after rain Monday washed out the first day of the tournament.

UK was led by senior Rachel Lester and junior Eva Gessner. Lester, a Fayetteville, Ga. native, shot a six-over-par 78 in the first round followed by an 81 in the second to finish in a tie for 37th place. Gessner, a native of Alzenau, Germany, turned in a seven-over-par 79 in the first round and an 81 in the second to finish in a tie for 40th place.

The Cats will get a short rest before participating in the Lady Gator Invitational beginning this weekend. The tournament runs Sunday, Mar. 9 through Tuesday Mar. 11 at the University Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
