The 25th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team completed an impressive weekend with a 7-0 shutout of No. 55 Purdue on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The victory, the Cats’ fifth straight, improved UK’s record to 8-4. The Cats swept the match with Boilermakers (4-4), dominating both doubles and singles. On Friday, Feb. 21, Kentucky recorded a 4-3 upset of No. 7 North Carolina.

Over the weekend, seniors Sarah Witten and Amy Trefethen continued to their stellar doubles play as did the tandems of Shannon Stafford and Nathalie Roels and Leigh Bradwell and Jill Buckley. In singles, Trefethen, Buckley and freshman Shannon Stough went undefeated over the weekend without dropping a single set. The team has come together to once again show it can be one of the elite in college tennis.

“This was a great weekend for our team,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “Our players have shown they are willing to put the team first. The whole UK women’s tennis family has adopted an idea of synergy and it is showing in their steady and consistent play. If we continue to grow on what we’ve started over the past couple of weeks this team can go a long way.”
